dipareaby

Sometimes little things with Percy turn into big struggles.  Diaper changes, for example.  He could be leaking and sagging and visibly uncomfortable but god forbid I try to lie him down and change that diaper.  I have been know to pin him down with my feet just to get the job done (taking great care of course to make sure I do not injure him).   It gets even uglier when there is poop involved.  Recently he was especially angry during a diaper change and kicked and screamed and squirmed and flailed the entire time.  You would have thought from his behavior that I had just told him that he could never ever go play outside again ever.  That’s how upset he was.  I had to lay the entire length of my legs across his body to help keep him contained, with my thighs holding down his feet and my feet holding down his arms.   I had gotten all the way to the fastening stage when he got his arms free.  He furiously began to push the diaper off his body and as I fought him I finally yelled in exasperation, “I…WILL…WIN!!!”

My oldest had been nearby the whole time, calmly watching the whole crazy scene.  When the diapering was finally over Percy was rolling around on the floor, tears streaming down his face, still howling his protests,  still with no pants on.  And I sat in silence, exhausted.

Gazing at a screaming Percy who was by now foaming at the mouth, Thomas soberly asked me, ”Did you win?”

“What do YOU think?”  I responded wearily.

His response?  “I want juice!”

 -sigh-

My youngest protested diaper changes too. As soon as she was on her back, the fight began. However, if I could do it while she was lying on her side, she was fine. Kids…!! Actually, I think the worst was face washing…they would flail and yell…nightmare!
