Seven Random Things About ME
April 2, 2008
I got tagged to do my first meme, 7 Random Things About Me, by my blog-buddy Kemi http://kemilikechemistry.wordpress.com/
I decided that these random ME things would be about the me that was simply ME. The ME that I miss being sometimes, that ME that is all too often neglected…who I am apart from being a mother and a wife. My family is so very important to me and I love my role in their life, but I also love just being me.
-
Here are the rules:
* Link back to me
* Post theses rules on your meme post
* Share seven random things about you…or as many as you like.
* Tag seven other fun-loving blog friends that need something to write about!
* And let them know…so they can do it.
-
And the seven random people that I’ll be tagging are as follows…
*crickets chirping* …
I don’t know a full 7 untagged bloggers, so Kemi, can I work on that last part? SORRY! Mel stole most of my tag-ees! She beat me to it! And I hate to tag people again. I will attempt to meet more bloggers just for the sole purpose of tagging them! *wink*-
So, here we go…
–
7 Random Things About ME
1. I am terrified of small monkeys. White-faced spider monkeys, to be exact, like the one on “Friends”, or in the movie “Outbreak” (never seen it. NO WAY!). *shudder* One bit me on the hand at a theme park when I was 8 years old and I was scarred for life. I had a flashback at a city park years later when I was feeding squirrels and too many of them surrounded me. I started running away, terrfied, still carrying peanuts, being chased by squirrels. -I was 21.

2. I am really flexible, but only in certain ways. I have what they call “open hips”. I can put both legs behind my head. Plus I can fold my legs up lotus or indian style (um, is that an offensive term now? seriously, let me know. I don’t know how else to describe it) and then completely fold my body in half by leaning forward and resting my head on the floor. When I am upset I sleep like that…it’s my modified fetal position. I can even get into some lotus-type positions better/deeper than my yoga instructor. Other poses, not so much. Bad knees, for one thing. And I could never do the splits.
3. Before I was a SAHM/WAHM I was a youth minister and seminary student. I am almost 3/4 done with my Masters of Divinity. But I am not sure if I will ever finish, even though that drives my subconscious crazy. I have nightmares that I have to go back as an adult and finish elementary school.
4. I am not very athletic or good at group sports but I can do some Karate and I snow ski and water ski. I am also really proud of the fact that I can do some tricks on a kneeboard– like 360-s. But once when trying to do turns I got stuck halfway around with my back to the boat and I was bent over still holding on to the rope behind my back with my rear end sticking out and I wasn’t wearing board shorts over my suit and I had a major wedgie so I basically mooned everyone on board.
5. I totally could have made it to Hollywood. On American Idol, I mean. “You’re going to Hollywood!!!” I don’t know that I could have made it to the top 20, but I could have initially gotten past the judges, I just know it. As fas as winning it, I’m not THAT good and well, let’s just say my singing style is better suited to another decade. I am neither a little bit country nor rock’n roll. I am more of an old style crooner… except I think the term “crooner” is used for dudes, but you get the point.
I love performing. I love to sing AND to do public speaking. I wish I had been given more chances to preach sermons or do talks when I was at seminary and working at the church. I love being in front of people and connecting with them. I can’t describe the amazing feelings you get— when you tell a story and the audience is leaning forward in their seats, when you get them laughing and you know you have them in the palm of your hand, or the Holy Spirit moves through you and uses one of your life experiences to help someone else. Or when you are singing with your whole being and it is soaring towards heaven AND touching someone else’s heart. Electric. Intoxicating. Indescribable.
6. I love to write. I have had a dream for over a decade now of being published. I am finally working towards realizing that dream. One of the reasons I have started this blog is to sharpen my writing skills and build up some material…although not everything in here is print-worthy lol! I am about to submit some articles to a mothering magazine and I am scared to death but really excited!
7. I am a diva. At least I admit it.

Fun blog, Goldie! Thanks for taking the time to visit mine and I hope you’ll find lots of quick and easy recipes that’ll fit into your lifestyle. (*cough* dark chocolate cupcakes with peanut butter frosting *cough*)
Happy blogging!
Thanks for visiting me back Ella! Did you say chocolate AND peanut butter??!! *RUNNING to her website to get the yummy recipie*
I found Ella’s blog by chance because she was helpful to me on a WordPress FAQ forum. It is full of easy from scratch recipies…and a bit of politics. It is called “From Scratch”. http://foodpluspolitics.com

Goldie,
Holy cow, I downhill ski, have my MA in religious studies, worked for the Diocese in the Office of Religious Education, and was also a youth minister – for years.
I also love to talk in front of groups, and enjoy reading at church. I LOVED doing the preparation for Confirmation.
We have a lot in common!
Oh, and just so you know I know my kids can’t say and have never heard ‘indian style’ when they are sitting that way. They now call that ‘criss cross applesauce.’ Does anybody’s else’s kids do that, or is that a midwest thing?
Well Holy Cow PPPJ, we DO have a ton in common. I KNEW you were cool! Makes me regret even more not being able to have coffee with you when you blew through my town. I was sooooo busy and overwhelmed that weekend (and every weekend).
I have never heard of “criss cross applesauce” but I like it! I figured the other term was not really appropriate anymore although I still hear it sometimes.

Thanks for sharing. I think posts like this help us understand one another a little bit better.
I used to be able to light matches with my toes. And no, I’m not a monkey. So, you don’t have to fear me. LOL
Thanks for reading! Where is your blog, hmmm? Or you could guest post at Mel’s.
You have useful toes! Neat trick! But you still sound suspiciously like a monkey! *snicker*

These are great, Goldie. That’s a great suggestion about Ruf guest posting on my blog. Maybe she’ll bring some normalcy to it!

#3 WOW Goldie. That’s awesome! And #6 I can see why – you kept me on the edge of my seat wondering if you would find your Thomas the Train set. After I got done reading that I sweating like a pig and my heart was racing. Over thomas.the.train for goodnessake – I don’t even have a toddler. LOL

Thanks CG, although sometimes I wish I was more driven to be successful b/c then I might have more discretionary income. i have always been more interested in being inspired and making a difference…but that doesn’t inspire the wallet.
As far as school goes, I would say I am somewhere in between 1/2 and 3/4 done…but I don’t know now if I want to finish. I don’t know what I want to be when I grow up anymore!
and I am working on the article submission thing, thanks for the encouragement.
